The Soaring Twenties is a book about Baseball in the twenties. It reflects people's thoughts, after the death of the dead ball era. Thomas Gilbert does an excellent job in telling this story. He does it as if he was there, step, by step as baseball evolved from the deadball era, to the home run era. He tells of a time when players played the game out of sheer pride of our national pastime's rich history. Now, players play it to pay the rent. It makes me sick when players are payed millions of dollars to play a game that they don't even love. It should be played for fun, and out of love for the game itself. Thomas Gilbert is also author of Deadball, and The Good Old Days. I plan on reading those also, and then I will post my thoughts and feelings about both of them by May 29th. My feelings on this book are that it is a very interesting book about quite possibly the wildest time in baseball history, and I plan to read it again during the course of this year. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
